Fet Gede - Haitian Day of the Dead Festival

Sun, Nov 1, 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Fet Gede - Haitian Day of the Dead Festival

New Orleans Healing Center · 2372 Saint Claude Ave

The New Orleans Healing Center and La Source Ancienne Ounfo invite the public to the annual Day of the Dead and Fet Gede (Haitian Day of the Dead) celebration. For over four decades, this vibrant, FREE, community-centered event has offered a space to honor ancestors and celebrate life through deep-rooted cultural traditions. Held at the New Orleans Healing Center, the evening features beautifully crafted local artist altars, a lively art and craft market, food vendors, and a Haitian rum happy hour to kick off the festivities. Attendees are welcome to bring photos and remembrances of their own loved ones to place on the main stage community altar. The heart of the evening begins with a powerful, traditional Vodou ceremony to invoke the Gede spirits, followed by a closing procession to feed the dead, pass flames, and share multi-tradition prayers. Guests are highly encouraged to immerse themselves in the experience by wearing white with a purple headscarf, or combinations of purple and black. You are also welcome to bring traditional offerings for the spirits, such as rum, cigars, peppers, or flatbreads, as the community gathers to ensure the memories of those who have passed remain vibrant and alive.

...into the MAGICAL realm

Cafe Istanbul · 2372 St. Claude Ave. New Orleans, LA 70117

cross the veil, and step ...into the MAGICAL realm! 🧿 This is not a dance show. this is a portal. For one unforgettable night, over 50 dancers from across the Gulf Coast gather in the heart of the Marigny to become the guardians of a realm you have only visited in dreams. Fae and forest spirits. Witches and warriors. Queens, alchemists, and keepers of ancient magic... Each dancer a character, each piece a spell, each shimmy a story pulled straight from folklore and fantasy. Expect candlelit lanterns and flowing cloaks, staffs and jewel-toned silks, and a troupe moving in white Saidi dresses like something freshly conjured. This is belly dance the way you have never seen it... theatrical, immersive, and alive with magic. Hosted by Karla Marie Shimmy Soul and Studio Shakti, featuring the Shimmy Shakti Troupe and guest dancers from all along the Gulf Coast, live at Cafe Istanbul. Leave the ordinary world at the door. cross the threshold. the realm is waiting. 💃💗
